Thanks to Justin at Aquarium Drunkard, we were turned on this great track from LA’s The Meeting Places. The band is back from a two year hiatus and really hitting their groove with “Millions” with a driving, fuzzed-out guitar sound reminiscent of Yo La Tengo. I highly recommend checking these guys out this Saturday (11/7) at Club Violaine in LA if you happen to be around.
From the band with probably the coolest name ever, Tape Deck Mountain recently put together this awesome vid for their track “Scantrons” from their upcoming record Ghost out November 17th on Lefse Records.
I recently (ok, right now as I’m writing this) revisited The Microphones’ masterpiece The Glow Pt. 2 through the extraordinary sonic experience that is Grado headphones and feel like a little kid again. This record has been a Banter favorite since its release in the earlier part of this decade and has most definitely seen its peaks in my personal charts. I invite you to throw on the headphones and ensconce yourself in “I Want Wind to Blow”. Listen to the full album if you can, but if you don’t…if you have the means, I highly recommend you pick one up.
Not your typical family vacation to the southernmost state in the nation, USF pays homage to Banterings faves Animal Collective in this great track featuring Alaskas. Also check out their newest album Ocean Sunbirds, available now via Little Fury Things.
We love The Dodos. Ever since we discovered their breakthrough album Visiter (long before “Fools” was in a beer commercial), we’ve wanted more. Their third full length Time to Die can be streamed in it’s entirety HERE, but if you love it as much as we do, support the band and buy it! It’s only available digitally until the physical release on September 15th via French Kiss.
How many bands can say they broke up and went along their own solo paths, only to be reunited by Brian Eno? The only one that comes to my mind is Harmonia. The incredible full story can be read HERE, but it includes Eno spontaneously jumping on stage with the band at a 1974 concert, collaborating on a project two years later that hid itself from public years for more than 20 years before it resurfaced, and then hid a little more until now when it is finally fully ready for public appreciation. That record is Harmonia & Eno ‘76 Tracks and Traces which will be released October 6th via Gronland / High Wire Music.
Although he may look like a normal guy in the photo above, Phil Elverum aka Mount Eeerie pka Microphones is far from it. With a style that has been wowing us for the better part of a decade and one that is truly his own, comes his third official installment as Mount Eerie, Wind’s Poem. Check out this epic track from the upcoming record and visit their site for a list of their national tour dates.
This post is for all of you who do not visit Pitchfork or Gorilla vs Bear on a daily basis. Washed Out has produced my NEW favorite summer jam, listen and learn.
Sometimes all it takes is getting your music in the hands of the right person. It also doesn’t hurt if that person is Spoon’s Britt Daniel. This happens to be the case for Columbia’s (Missouri, not the country or university) White Rabbits. After hearing their debut Fort Nightly, Daniel immediately jumped in and took the producer’s reigns for their followup It’s Frightening, out now on TBD Records. Sometimes it is frightening (in a good way) to hear Daniel’s influence on this great record. Watch the drum heavy (and aptly titled) Percussion Gun video ahead, and if you live across the pond or in the southeastern region of the US, check out their live show!
Ok so “From Africa to Malaga” takes the prize for jam of the summer. This easily could be Enya’s addition to the Lion King soundtrack. I know nothing about jj except that you can buy her amazing record here.
